Satellite Television Antenna Systems
Coverage Maps
The following satellite footprint information is intended as a general
reference only. The satellite maps do not guarantee coverage and may change
without notice. Also be aware that various conditions may cause signal quality
to degrade along fringe coverage areas.
What is "EIRP"?
Each footprint map indicates coverage areas based on EIRP (Effective
Isotropic Radiated Power), a value representing the satellite signal strength
in those areas. The higher the number, the stronger the signal.
In general, the size of the antenna's reflector determines the minimum EIRP
it will require for TV reception. Since larger antennas can collect more of
the satellite signal, they can tolerate weaker power levels and offer a wider
operating range. For example, the 32" (82 cm) TracVision M9 can receive
satellite signals down to an EIRP of 43 dBW, while the much smaller 14.5" (36
cm) TracVision M3 requires a minimum EIRP of 50 dBW for TV reception.
The bottom line: If you're located within a coverage area that has an EIRP
equal to or greater than your antenna's rating, you should have no problem
getting crystal-clear TV reception.
Many other factors besides EIRP affect the ability to watch TV with a given
antenna size. Please see your authorized KVH agent for details.
